چکیده

Abstract: In the present study the software CrackComput , based on the Xfem and Xcrack libraries has been used for three problemsto experiment on the convergence properties of the method applied to elasto-statics crack problems, comparison of stress intensity factors to simplified analytical results and study of the Brazilian fracture test. All the problems are treated in two dimensions under plane strain assumption and the material is supposed elastic and isotropic. For the first example, comparison for different parameter-enrichment type and radius, degree of polynomial has been performed. Second example convergence of SIF with the L/h ratio has been performed and compared with the analytical solution. Third example is the study of snapback phenomenon.

The Effects of Newmark Method Parameters on Errors in Dynamic Extended Finite Element Method Using Response Surface Method

The Newmark method is an effective method for numerical time integration in dynamic problems. The results of Newmark method are function of its parameters (β, γ and ∆t). In this paper, a stationary mode I dynamic crack problem is coded in extended finite element method )XFEM( framework in Matlab software and results are verified with analytical solution. This paper focuses on effects of main pa...

Analysis of Sheet Fracture Failure Based on XFEM

Extended finite element method (XFEM) is the most effective numerical method to solve discrete mechanical problem. Crack growth problem of two-dimension finite length rectangle panel is researched based on Abaqus XFEM frame. Stress intensity factor is obtained respectively by theoretical calculation and XFEM simulation, which proves reliability of XFEM and the software.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Rock Dynamic Fracture

Rapid development of engineering activities expands through a variety of rock engineering processes such as drilling, blasting, mining and mineral processing. These activities require rock dynamic fracture mechanics method to characterize the rock behavior. Dynamic fracture toughness is an important parameter for the analysis of engineering structures under dynamic loading. Several experimental...

Extended Finite Element Method with Simplified Spherical Harmonics Approximation for the Forward Model of Optical Molecular Imaging

An extended finite element method (XFEM) for the forward model of 3D optical molecular imaging is developed with simplified spherical harmonics approximation (SP(N)). In XFEM scheme of SP(N) equations, the signed distance function is employed to accurately represent the internal tissue boundary, and then it is used to construct the enriched basis function of the finite element scheme. Therefore...

On Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) for Modelling of Organ Deformations Associated with Surgical Cuts

The Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) is a technique used in fracture mechanics to predict how objects deform as cracks form and propagate through them. Here, we propose the use of XFEM to model the deformations resulting from cutting through organ tissues. We show that XFEM has the potential for being the technique of choice for modelling tissue retraction and resection during surgery. Can...

Analysis of a Nitsche XFEM-DG Discretization for a Class of Two-Phase Mass Transport Problems

We consider a standard model for mass transport across an evolving interface. The solution has to satisfy a jump condition across an evolving interface. We present and analyze a finite element discretization method for this mass transport problem. This method is based on a space-time approach in which a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) technique is combined with an extended finite element method (XF...
